12 Gag Gift Ideas for Your Boss

Neha B Deshpande
Giving a gag gift to your boss can be akin to entering unsafe territory for most of us. Yet, if you are lucky enough to be blessed with a boss who does not mind spilling a few giggles at the office desk, this story is just for you! We give you a list of gag gift ideas for your boss to tickle his funny bone.
"A person reveals his character by nothing so clearly as the joke he resents."
Georg Christoph Lichtenberg, The Waste Books
Admit it, we all, in our hearts, are tired of saying "Yes Boss!". Yet, before you even think of giving a gag gift to your boss, make sure you adhere to this checklist!

✔ You have a boss who can take a joke on himself/herself and yet be cool about it!
✔ You share an informal relationship with your boss (who does not have any anger management issues!)
✔ Most importantly, your gifts should not be personally demeaning to your boss. You cannot overdo it, cause your boss still has your career (and the paycheck) in his hands!
If you're done with reading the checklist, and your boss seems to fit the bill, following are some crazy ideas for adding a little bit of humor to your serious professional life. Let's start with the conventional ones.

Coffee With My Boss

You could gift coffee mugs with funny one-liners like:

BOSS = Brain Sucking Vampire

Dear Boss, LOL for the 'Dear'

#1 Yes Boss! #2 No questions!

My paycheck is a joke!

Wear My Thoughts, Boss!

Gift him a Tee which will flaunt your emotions.
"I need an extra pay to laugh at my boss's jokes." (If you have a boss with a poor sense of humor, this is your chance to point it out to him!)

"The Boss is Always Right, when we should be on the Left."
"The brain is a wonderful organ; it starts working the moment you get up in the morning and does not stop until you get into the office." ― Robert Frost

"I love my Boss, except when he is not bossing me!"

Don a Cap, Boss!

Gift your boss a cap which will depict his face, with a cartoon engraved on it, or rather a funny quote about bosses which you might come across.

Brain = Under Construction

Every 'Boss' has a 'Boss'

I boss here, since I cannot at my home!

My brains are mortgaged, so I cannot use it without permission!

Your Signature, Please!

Pens are considered to be one of the more professional gifts, and what could be better than to engrave a funny quote on the pen? Next time your boss pulls out a pen to sign, he is sure to be in splits!
My paycheck yearns for your autograph...

Sign my pay hike!

You're signing on my ideas! (for a boss who takes credit for your work!)

You just signed my promotion letter!
Here are some unconventional ones, that might interest you.

The Scary Boss

Use a ghost's image, and morph it to put your boss's name, and you could write below:
"Stop Haunting The Office, Boss!"

"This Halloween, I will dress up like my Boss."

"Boss, you don't need a Halloween costume."

"My Boss gives me goose bumps."

The 'Monstrous' Boss

If you're willing to be creative, you could simply make your boss a monster using various methods given below. Frame it, use the picture on a pen stand/cap or a keyring, and it will remind him of your devilish motives to have a hearty laugh!
You could give him a devil look, by painting him all red and drawing a tail and horns!

Give him a vampire look by drawing protruding canines and blood on his face.

Give him the look of a fiery dragon, by showing fire emitting from his mouth.
For a lady boss, just show her as witch! Draw her a signature black cap and a magic wand, and let all her black magic spells, be shown. (for example, you can write the phrases she uses whenever she is in a rage!)
Be careful with editing of images, and do not end up hurting your boss's sentiments. A safer option would be to use animated characters instead of playing with your boss's photograph!

Punch You Boss!

If you have a secret desire to punch your boss, go ahead and let him know that when he hassles you, this is your exact feeling! Gift him a punching bag, and write on the punching bag:
"This hard punch, for my dear boss!"

or you could simply write on the punching bag in bold letters:

He is sure to go all black and blue with this one!

What's In a Name?

You could just gift him a funny desk plate, which is sure going to make him go nuts even though he may be the Executive or the Supervisor! Identify some unique characteristics of your boss, and engrave them on the desk plate. For example, you could write:
"Mr. Grumpy" (if you have a boss who complains about everything.)

"The Snoring Boss" (if you have caught your boss stealing a nap during meetings!)
"Mr. Watch Dog" (if you have a boss who goes overboard on watching his juniors and their actions.)

"You-Know-Who" (if you have a boss who terrorizes his staff like Lord Voldemort of Harry Potter fame!)

Willing to go and spend an extra penny to make your boss laugh? You could get customized bobbleheads made or buy readymade boss bobbleheads and be rest assured to turn heads around!

Got a workaholic boss who is always whining to grant you leaves and instead makes your weekends too miserable? Gift him a calendar, where he can't put red marks for important meetings, rather all of them will be marked as holidays! A foolproof method to convey to your boss that you both need a break!

The 'Animated' Boss

Simply put, use your imagination to sketch a cartoon of your boss. Grab a friend who is good at sketching, or get a customized cartoon version of your boss by spending a little. He is sure to be amused at this one!

Inside the Diary

If you're willing to go the extra mile, this is just for you―a customized diary for your boss! Design your own cover page for the diary. You could use 'The Scary Boss' or 'The Devil Boss' images for the cover page, or simply rack your brains to make it interesting. Further, you could also put funny boss quotes at the end of the diary. For example:
"Many people are smarter than their stupid bosses" ― Toba Beta, Master Of Stupidity

"I have to go. Boss has this weird idea that I should actually work while he's paying me" ― Laurie Halse Anderson, Wintergirls
"When my boss hears about my screw up, he'll be shocked, because he is deaf" ― Jarod Kintz, So many chairs, and no time to sit

"If a man were choking, what would I do? Depends. If that man is my boss, I'd strangle him.
" ― Jarod Kintz, If you bring the booze and food, I'll bring the thirst and hunger
You may gift any of these gag gifts on Boss Day or any special occasion at office. Of course, do remember to contain the humor, and do not let it get personal, especially where your job might be at stake! Keep it within limits (best known to you), and don't leave an impression on your boss's mind that you take him rather casually. Good Luck!
